Erwin Koch-Raphael

Erwin Koch-Raphael (born October 11, 1949 in Kempen ) is a German composer for new (serious) music and has lived in Bremen and Bremerhaven since 1982 .

Life

In addition to his studies as a sound engineer , he studied composition with Yun I-sang in Berlin and then deepened this with Iannis Xenakis and Franco Donatoni in Paris. In 1979 Koch-Raphael visited South Korea for a longer period at the invitation of the Korean section of the ISCM .

From 1996 to 2015 he taught at the Hochschule für Künste Bremen as a professor for composition and music theory.

He is a member and co-founder of the Bremen performance group ganZeit, which was founded in 1984 (until 1989), and was also involved in founding the Bremen Center for Electroacoustic Music in 1990. In 1990 he worked for the Response project in Frankfurt / M. with the Ensemble Modern as a lecturer. The Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe (ZKM) awarded one of the first project grants in 1991 to Koch-Raphael, who worked there for a year at the Institute for Music and Acoustics.

He is the recipient of several composition prizes, including a. also the Bremen Prize for special compositional achievements .

Together with the Bremerhaven Cultural Office, Koch-Raphael initiated the project ambi - for the first time in 2005 - in which pupils are introduced to contemporary music with their own compositional work and present this in a public final concert.
