The striker Erwin Läpple, who emerged from TSVgg Stuttgart-Münster 1875/99 , was already used on May 2, 1943 in the final round of the German soccer championship for VfB Stuttgart against TSV 1860 Munich . After the Second World War , he was also a member of the first VfB championship team in the South Football League in the 1945/46 round. On the last match day of the debut round of the Oberliga, on July 14, 1946, Stuttgart won 1-0 goals against the leaders 1. FC Nürnberg and thus captured the championship title in the south. Läpple stormed on the right wing of the attack by the Swabian team, led by striker Robert Schlienz (42 goals). In the following three rounds Stuttgart could not play a decisive role for the top positions. In the 1949/50 round , the development work of coach Georg Wurzer paid off for the first time , VfB came in second behind master SpVgg Fürth in the south and thus qualified for the finals.

After successes against VfL Osnabrück , 1. FC Kaiserslautern and the Südmeister Fürth in the semifinals, the right winger became German champion in 1950 with a 2-1 win against Kickers Offenbach . In the final, he brought his team 1-0 in front of 90,000 spectators in Berlin in the 17th minute. When VfB again won the German championship in 1952 , Läpple had played in the finals against Osnabrück and Tennis Borussia Berlin , but was not used in the final due to injury. In the top division round 1951/52 he had contributed seven hits in 25 games for the championship eleven in the south. He was also used in the last round match, on April 6, 1952, against 1. FC Nürnberg in a 2-0 home win, with which VfB won the title in the south with one point ahead of rivals from the Noris.

For his footballing achievements he received the silver laurel leaf on June 30, 1951, when he won the German championship with the entire VfB Stuttgart team.

Overall, Erwin Läpple came from 1945 to 1952 for VfB Stuttgart in the Oberliga Süd on 208 missions and scored 53 goals.

For southern Germany, he stormed in the representative games on October 17, 1948 in Nuremberg against northern Germany and on November 11, 1950 in Ludwigshafen against southwestern Germany.
