Erwin Loewenson

Erwin Loewenson (born August 31, 1888 in Thorn , † January 22, 1963 in Tel-Aviv , Israel ) was a member of the New Club and under the pseudonym Golo Gangi employee for literary newspapers Die Aktion , Der Feuerreiter. Sheets for Poetry and Criticism and The Democrat .

Life

Loewenson was born the son of a dentist and grew up in Berlin from 1894 , where he later attended the Friedrich-Wilhelm-Gymnasium and graduated from high school in 1907. He then studied for two years Jura and moved in 1909 to the philosophy for which he was enrolled year another eight; However, during these years he also dealt with medicine , psychology , biology , natural science and German studies .

In 1908 he joined the student union Freie Wissenschaftliche Vereinigung (FWV), founded in 1881 , where he met Kurt Hiller . With him he founded the New Club the following year , in which he played a leading role until the end of 1914. At this time, and possibly mediated by Martin Buber , Loewenson became a Zionist. During the First World War , he served an air force from 1916 to 1918 despite being unfit for service due to an eye condition and was then a civilian employee until 1919.

In 1922 Loewenson married the pianist Alice Jacob and became secretary in the German Palestine Aid. Loewenson was involved in the organization and journalism of the Zionist movement and in 1933 emigrated to Palestine via Paris .

His estate is now in the German Literature Archive in Marbach and in the Leibniz Archive of the Hanover State Library .
