Erwin Schymik (born December 1, 1930 ) is a former German soccer player. As a left winger he was in the 1950s and 1960s for Turbine Erfurt and Motor Jena in the GDR Oberliga , the top division in GDR football , in action. With Turbine Erfurt he was GDR champion in 1955.

Athletic career

In 1954, the 23-year-old Schymik moved from the third-rate district division Chemie Apolda to the GDR champion Turbine Erfurt. There he came on the last match day of the first half of the league for the first time. By the end of the season he was used in six league games as a left winger and scored his first goal in the top division. Turbine Erfurt ended the season with the successful defense of the championship title. In the so-called transition round carried out in the fall of 1955, after which GDR football operations were switched to the calendar year rhythm, Schmymik was used in 12 of the 13 games played, again as a left winger.

After Schymik did not appear in higher-class football in the 1956 football season, he was in 1957 in the squad of the league promoted Motor Jena. On the 10th game day he played his first league game for Jena, then missed only one point game and came in 1957, still as a striker on the left, on 16 league appearances with three goals. In 1958 and 1959 he was able to establish himself as a regular player while maintaining his position with 21 appearances each in 26 point games. In 1960 he had to sit out several times due to injuries and only made 14 point matches. He also missed the 1960 GDR Cup final, which the Jena team won 3-2 after extra time against Empor Rostock . In 1961 GDR football returned to the summer-spring season. For this purpose, a season of 36 point games had to be played in the league from March 1961 to June 1962. It was Schymik's last league season, in which he was only used in four point games. With that, he had completed six league seasons, six times for Turbine Erfurt and 78 times for Motor Jena in league games. As a permanent left winger, he scored 16 championship goals (one for Erfurt).

After his senior league career Schymik joined the district league team Motor Zeiss Jena in 1963 . In 1965 he became district champion with Motor Zeiss, but the team failed in the promotion round to the GDR league .
