The Erythroplasia , Synonyms: Nacktpapilläres epithelioma; Queyrat syndrome or Erythroplasia de Queyrat (first described by Louis Auguste Queyrat, * December 2, 1856, Meymanat ( Creuse ), France; † October 18, 1933, Paris , French dermatologist), is a skin disease that occurs on the genitals and is triggered by human papilloma viruses which can lead to skin cancer ( precancerosis ). The mucosal variant of Bowen's disease is called Queyrat's erythroplasia.

Symptoms

Erythroplasia occurs primarily in uncircumcised men on the glans of the penis and its foreskin , but also in women on the labia and the oral mucosa : It is characterized by flat, sharply defined spots that are deep red in color and have a matt surface. The spots begin small and grow slowly but steadily and spread across the surface. Complaints are rare. The finding is fatally often overlooked or ignored for years.

histology

Microscopic picture ( histology ) of Bowen's disease : the basal lamina has not yet been broken down by the tumor cell masses (carcinoma in situ). No metastasis at this stage.

Histologically, erythroplasia is a real carcinoma in situ , and is described as a mucosal variant of Bowen's disease , but in contrast to it only occurs on the genitals. If erythroplasia is suspected, a sample ( biopsy ) should be taken and the tissue should be examined in order to detect and treat skin cancer at an early stage.

therapy

Lesions are treated topically with 5-fluorouracil ointment, systemically with bleomycin . In the event of a relapse, the lesion must be completely removed and then covered with plastic. For use, the coming excision means Elektrotom that laser photocoagulation , the irradiation with soft X-rays or cryosurgery . In extreme cases, the glans must be amputated.

forecast

The prognosis is less favorable than that of Bowen's disease. Close controls are therefore necessary.

annotation

Erythroplasia is not to be confused with erythroplakia , a form of leukoplakia .
