Erzebach (courtyard)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Erzebach , also known as Hof Erzebach , is a hamlet in the district of Obergeis , a district of the Neuenstein municipality in the Hersfeld-Rotenburg district in East Hesse .

The small settlement, which emerged from a single courtyard, consists of four residential houses, three of which are still inhabited. It is located about 2.5 kilometers southwest of the center of Obergeis at an altitude of 364 m in the valley of the Erzebach , about 100 m south of the brook on the Erzebacher Straße, that of Obergeis - the federal motorway 7 and the north portal of the Kalter-Sand-Tunnel of the ICE - Crossing the Hanover – Würzburg route - runs in the Erzebach valley to the Erzebach hamlet.

The Erzebach farm was first mentioned in a document in 1462 and was owned by the Hersfeld Abbey , which had iron ore mined and processed on and around the nearby Eisenberg ( 635.5  m above sea  level ). About 200 m to the north-west, on the northern bank of the stream, is the site of a former ironworks ( erwähnten ), first mentioned in 1483 , but whose operation was probably ceased around 1530. The stream and the farm owe their names to ore mining.
