Espostoa huanucoensis is a species of plant in the genus Espostoa from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet refers to the distribution area near the Peruvian city of Huánuco .

description

Espostoa huanucoensis has a shrubby growth with branched shoots and reaches heights of 2 to 3 meters. The spreading, green shoots measure 6 to 10 centimeters in diameter. There are 17 to 25 ribs that are 5 to 7 millimeters high and on which there are yellowish brown felted areoles . The 30 to 40 needle-like thorns are bright golden yellow and 0.5 to 1 centimeter long. The cephalium includes five to eight ribs, is 1 to 2 meters long and consists of white hairs 5 to 7 centimeters long.

The white flowers are 5.5 to 7 inches long. The green or reddish brown fruits are 2 to 3.5 centimeters long.

Distribution and systematics

Espostoa huanucoensis is common in Peru in the Huánuco region.

It was first described in 1981 by Friedrich Ritter . A synonym is Espostoa lanata subsp. huanucoensis (F.Ritter) GJCharles (2002).
