Antoine Blanchard - also Esprit-Joseph-Antoine Blanchard (born February 29, 1696 in Pernes-les-Fontaines , † April 19, 1770 in Versailles ) was a French music master , royal conductor at the French court and composer of the musical baroque and pre-classical periods .

Live and act

As a child, Antoine Blanchard was a singer in the choir of the Saint-Sauveur Cathedral in Aix-en-Provence and a student of Guillaume Poitevin . In addition to music and composition , he studied theology , Latin and mathematics . In 1717, at the age of only 21, he was appointed Maître de Musique (music master) of the Abbey of Saint-Victor in Marseille and subsequently worked in the same position in the Cathedral of Toulon , the Cathedral of Besançon and the Cathedral of Amiens .

Blanchard is considered one of the most important composers of the French Grand Motet . As early as 1732, his motets had established themselves in the programs of the Paris Concert Spirituel and the performance of the motet Laudate Dominum in the presence of King Louis XV. in 1737 paved the way for an appointment to the Chapelle Royal at Versailles in 1738, where he remained in service until his death. In 1761 he was awarded the title of Royal Kapellmeister ( Maître de Musique de la Chapelle du Roy ) and the honorary title of Écuyer, Chevalier de l'Ordre du Roy .
