The Essener Kulturpfad is an approximately four-kilometer-long footpath that connects cultural sites and art objects in Essen city center and in the southern district. It starts at the Folkwang pedestrian bridge.

A total of 372 blue paving stones made of glass at a distance of approx. 10 meters mark the cultural path on the ground. They guide visitors to places of art and culture between the Folkwang Museum in the south and the Marktkirche in the north. The path leads past the old synagogue , Old Catholic Church of Peace , cathedral , adult education center , Lichtburg , Grillo-Theater , RWE-Tower , Aalto-Theater , Philharmonie , works of art in the city garden, Church of the Redeemer and the cultural studies institute at the Folkwangbrücke . At the northern end of the path is to install light finger on the Steag to see -Schornsteinen. Every year in June there is a festival along the cultural path, at which the participating institutions present themselves on the street or in their homes.

The culture trail was officially opened by Ilse Brusis on May 17, 2000 with a bridge festival at the new Folkwang Bridge, which leads over the Bundesstraße 224 . In 2004 all over 300 stones, equipped with light-emitting diodes , were laid. Each stone cost its sponsor, who is named on it, 1,550 euros. In 2009, 125 stones were broken due to the heavy traffic and no longer glowed blue. The renovation is to be financed from the budget of the Ruhr 2010 Capital of Culture .
