history

Main stand of the stadium

The Estádio Governador Ernani Sátyro in Campina Grande, the second largest city in the Brazilian state of Paraíba, was built in 1975 and opened that same year. The future user of the venue, Campinense Clube, and Botafogo FR , a top Brazilian club in Rio de Janeiro , met for the first game in the new stadium . As this game ended 0-0, the first goal at this stadium was scored in the second game, by Pedrinho Cangula of Campinense in a game against local rivals FC Treze (1-1). Since 1975, the Estádio Governador Ernani Sátyro in Campina Grande has been used by the local Campinense Clube as a venue for home games. The club has not had much success to this day, only winning the state championship in Paraíba 17 times, where the biggest opponents are only FC Treze or Botafogo FC, but not to be confused with the well-known Botafogo from Rio de Janeiro, and none of them are higher class than Campinense. Currently the club in the third Brazilian league that plays Série C .

The Estádio Governador Ernani Sátyro can now accommodate 25,770 spectators. The attendance record in the classic, almost round Brazilian-style stadium dates back to February 7, 1982, when Flamengo Rio de Janeiro was playing a game against FC Treze in Campina Grande and 41,149 spectators saw the guests' 3-1 victory. At that time the stadium was also used by FC Treze, but nowadays it plays in its own stadium, in the Estádio Presidente Vargas . The Estádio Governador Ernani Sátyro is named after Ernani Sátyro , who was Governor of Paraíba from 1971 to 1975. It is also often referred to as O Amigão , which is due to the name Ernani Sátyro gave to his voters. He called them amigos velhos , in German, old friends .
