The Estádio do Lumiar (or Campo do Lumiar ) was a football stadium in the municipality of Lumiar in the Portuguese capital, Lisbon . In addition to a soccer field, the facility also included an athletics facility and a cycling track .

history

The stadium was inaugurated on June 28, 1914. On April 30, 1937, the Sporting Lisbon club rented the stadium and from then on played its home games there. After negotiations with the Câmara Municipal of Lisbon, the venue became the property of the club in 1947. The playing field was given a natural turf , the running track and cycle track were removed and spectator stands were built. The renovated stadium was inaugurated on June 13, 1947 with a game between Sporting and Atlético Bilbao . It remained the home of the Sporting CP until it moved to the Estádio José Alvalade in 1956.

Between 1922 and 1936, a total of 13 international matches for the Portuguese national football team took place in the stadium. It hosted the Taça de Portugal finals in 1940 and 1942 .
