The Estadio Elías Figueroa Brander , also known as Estadio Playa Ancha , is a football stadium with an athletics facility in the Chilean city of Valparaíso . The local football club Club de Deportes Santiago Wanderers plays its home games here.
history
The sports facility was opened in 1931, renovated from 2012 to 2014 and can now accommodate 20,575 spectators. With the renovation, the stadium was adapted to the requirements of FIFA with regard to the Copa América 2015 . The old facade was retained in its old structure. The old grandstands have been completely replaced. The playing field made of natural grass in the standard size 105 × 68 meters received a drainage and irrigation system . The floodlight system , which is distributed over four masts, has been upgraded and now allows television broadcasts in HD quality. The facility has been named after the former football player Elías Figueroa , who was born in Valparaíso , since 2012 .
In 1987 the stadium was the venue for six preliminary round and one quarter-final of the Junior World Cup . During the Copa America 1991 , two preliminary round matches were played here.
