Esther Ouwehand

Esther Ouwehand (born June 10, 1976 in Katwijk ) is a Dutch politician of the Partij voor de Dieren (PvdD).

Since November 30, 2006 she has been a member of the PvdD parliamentary group in the Second Chamber of the Dutch Parliament . Until March 23, 2017 she formed the parliamentary group with Marianne Thieme , then with Thieme and three other politicians (since July 2019 the parliamentary group has only had four members because Femke Merel van Kooten-Arissen left the party).

She has also been the party office coordinator since 2004. In 2012, she represented Thieme as chairwoman of the parliamentary group during her baby break. From mid-November 2015 to October 18, 2016, Ouwehand temporarily resigned her parliamentary mandate for health reasons. It was represented by Frank Wassenberg during this time . She has been the parliamentary group leader and party leader since October 9, 2019, replacing Marianne Thieme, who left parliament.

Ouwehand studied policy , communication and organization at the Free University of Amsterdam (no diploma). She was the marketing manager of a publisher of youth magazines and worked in youth welfare .

Esther Ouwehand is a vegetarian . She is married and lives in Leiden .
