Esther Wanjiru Maina

Esther Wanjiru Maina (born March 27, 1977 ) is a Kenyan long-distance runner .

Career

In 1998 she won gold in the 10,000-meter run at the Commonwealth Games . In 1999 she was the Half Marathon of Tokyo second in the world record run of Elana Meyer and is still with the 1:06:49 zwölftschnellste woman world over this distance.

In the marathon of the Olympic Games 2000 she was fourth behind Naoko Takahashi (JPN), Lidia Șimon (ROM) and Joyce Chepchumba (KEN).

In 1999 she finished third in the Osaka Women's Marathon , and also in 2000 in her personal best of 2:23:31.
