Elana Meyer

Elana Meyer (born October 10, 1966 in Albertinia , South Africa ) is a former South African long-distance runner and Olympic medalist.

Until the end of the 1990s, Elana Meyer mainly ran distances of 1500 to 10,000 meters and then specialized in the half marathon and marathon . In her native South Africa she won over 20 titles in athletics . She has held the world record in 15 km road running (46:57 min) since 1991 and improved the world record in the half marathon four times to a time of 1:06:44 h from 1991 to 1999. In 1994 she finished third and in 1995 second in the Boston Marathon . In 1998 she took third place in the Chicago Marathon .

At the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona , she won the silver medal in the 10,000 meter run behind the Ethiopian Derartu Tulu (gold) and ahead of the American Lynn Jennings (bronze).

In 2005, she announced that she would retire from competitive sports.
