Jackline Maranga

Jackline Maranga ( Jackline Bonareri Maranga ; born December 16, 1977 in Nyanturago , Kisii Central District , Nyanza Province ) is a Kenyan middle and long distance runner .

Life

At the age of 14, she won a silver medal in the 1,500-meter run at the 1992 World Junior Championships in athletics . Silver over 800 meters followed in 1994 and silver over 1500 meters again in 1996 .

In 1997 she married her fellow runner Tom Nyariki . The couple celebrated a double victory at the Course de l'Escalade .

In 1998 she was fifth on the long distance at the World Cross Country Championships and won gold with the team. In the same year she won over 1500 meters at the African Championships in Dakar and at the Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur .

In the following season she became the cross-country world champion on the short distance, won bronze over 1500 meters at the Pan-African Games and was eleventh over the same distance at the World Championships in Seville .

After a baby break, she returned to competition in 2002, came fourth in the 1500m at the Commonwealth Games in Manchester and won the African Championships in Radès . In 2003 she was fifth at the World Championships in Paris / Saint-Denis and won bronze at the African Games.

In 2005 she became the mother of a daughter for the second time.
