The Estonian Bracke ( Estonian : Eesti hagijas ) is a breed of dog from Estonia recognized by the FCI . The breed belongs to sweat dogs ( FCI group 6, section 1.2 ).

Origin and history

Breeding of the breed began in 1947 when the Soviet Ministry of Economic Affairs decided that every Union republic should have at least one breed of dog of its own. To establish the breed various Russian and Polish were hounds , roof Bracken , Foxhounds , Beagles and various strokes of the Swiss running dog used. In 1954 the standard was adopted in Moscow .

description

The Estonian hound is of medium size, with strong bones and well-defined muscles. The skin is tight and wrinkle-free on the head and body. The skull is round and moderately wide, with a not too strong stop . The snout and skull are roughly the same length. The ears are thin and long, close to the cheeks, set low, with rounded tips. The eyes are dark and almond-shaped.

The back is broad, straight and muscular. The length of the front legs is approximately half the height at the withers. The tail is saber-shaped and thinning towards the tip, the end should reach the heels.

The coat is short, hard and shiny, with a poorly developed undercoat . The color is white with black spots bordered by tan, the size of which is not limited. Yellow spots are also allowed. The tip of the rod is white.

The breed is described as balanced, lively, and friendly.

use

The Estonian hound is used as a hunting dog for hunting hares , foxes , lynxes and birds. In addition to Estonia, the breed is also common in the European part of Russia and Finland .
