Helmut Manns (born October 26, 1947 ) is a former German soccer player. From 1971 to 1973 he was at FC Schalke 04 in the Bundesliga 19 league matches played (1 goal) and 1972/73 UEFA Cup Winners' Cup came four times to use.

career

In the amateur league Rhineland, at SSV Mülheim , near Koblenz , the attacker Helmut Mann played in the field of vision of the DFB and Schalke 04. Through his additional appearances in the Rhineland selection in the competition of the country cup - 1969/70 was his strike partner Ewald Hammes - he played himself in the squad of the amateur soccer team in the spring of 1971 . The coach Jupp Derwall , responsible for the DFB selection of amateurs , used the attacker from Mülheim in the international match on March 3, 1971 against Luxembourg. At the side of Helmut Bergfelder , Jürgen Kalb , Bernd Nickel and Hammes, Manns stormed in the 2: 4 defeat on the left wing. For the 1971/72 season he accepted the offer from Bundesliga club FC Schalke 04 and moved to Gelsenkirchen.

Since Erwin and Helmut Kremers , Nico Braun , Paul Holz , Hartmut Huhse and Ulrich van den Berg had joined coach Ivica Horvat's team , the chances of the former amateur from the Rhineland were limited. On October 2, 1971, in a 4-0 home win against Hertha BSC, Manns made his debut as a substitute in the Bundesliga. With 16: 2 points Schalke led the Bundesliga table. On October 16, he came on for the second time at the home game against Rot-Weiß Oberhausen (4-0), before he made his third and final substitution as a substitute in his first Bundesliga season on October 23, 1971 on the Bökelberg, against Borussia Mönchengladbach came. The table leaders from Schalke had traveled with 19: 3 points and a goal difference of 27: 5 after ten game days for coach Hennes Weisweiler's team in the Niederrhein region. At halftime the “foals” were already leading 5-0 and ultimately decided the game 7-0. Three days earlier, on October 20th, the rifle throwing game in the Bökelberg Stadium had taken place 7-1 against Inter Milan. At the end of the round, Schalke was runner-up with 52:16 points and won the DFB Cup 5-0 against 1. FC Kaiserslautern.

This successful team broke up as a result of the Bundesliga scandal . Manns, not involved in this, came to 16 Bundesliga games (1 goal) in the 1972/73 season due to the weakness in personnel. Schalke achieved relegation with 28:40 points. In the European Cup Winners' Cup, they played against Slavia Sofia (3: 1), FC Cork Hibernians (0: 0/3: 0) and Sparta Prague (0: 3).
