The Eterna Mode GmbH (proper spelling ETERNA ) is a 1863 founded German clothing company based in Passau and under the brand Eterna specializes in men's shirts and women's blouses.

history

ETERNA semi-rigid collar 1923

In 1863 the Hönigsberg brothers founded a lingerie factory in Vienna and produced, among other things, semi-rigid shirt collars. They gave this product the name "Eterna" (from Latin aeterna , 'forever' ). In 1927 the first branch was founded in Passau. The replacement from the Austrian parent company and the establishment of an independent company, incorporated into PIAG (Passauer Industrie AG), took place in 1935. In the last year before the outbreak of the Second World War, Eterna employed around 400 people at the Passau headquarters and manufactured around 240,000 shirts and over 1 million semi-rigid collar. During the war years, the production machines were dismantled and stored.

In 1969 Eterna participated for the first time with its own stand at the men's fashion week in Cologne, later also at the fashion week in Munich and from 1974 also for the newly introduced blouses product segment at the CPD in Düsseldorf. In 1977, after the previously affiliated “Lina” laundry was closed, it was entered in the commercial register under Eterna Herrenwäschefabrik GmbH . In 1981 the non-iron Swiss cotton quality swiss + cotton, produced on behalf of the company, was introduced. Since 2000, Eterna has been certified with the Oeko-Tex Standard 100plus , an eco- seal of quality for textiles and clothing.

In 2003 the logistics center in Passau was expanded to a total storage capacity of 550,000 shirts and 150,000 blouses. In 2004, the company began building branded shops in specialist retail and opened two first stores in Koblenz and in Munich's OEZ. In 2011, the expansion of the premium area with elastic cotton fabrics began.

Range of goods

The Eterna product range includes shirts , blouses, ties , polo shirts , knitwear and accessories . The shirts are offered in four cuts : Comfort Fit corresponds to a comfortable cut, Modern Fit offers a tailored cut and Slim Fit and Super Slim Fit for a figure-hugging, tight cut. The embroidered logo (the letter "e" with a crown) has not been placed on clothing since summer 2016.

Manufacture and distribution

Eterna retail store

The production takes place almost exclusively in Europe . The fabrics are delivered just-in-time from Switzerland to Bánovce nad Bebravou in Slovakia , the company's own clothing company with 725 employees. Around 7,500 shirts are produced here in two shifts every day. The company operates around 50 brand stores independently and on a franchise basis. However, most of the sales are made through retailers . Around 5500 retailers worldwide are supplied, around 3000 of them in Germany.

Ownership

In 2006, the two financial investors Quadriga Capital and Alpha Private Equity became approximately equal owners of Eterna Mode. After Alpha Private Equity withdrew , the private equity investor Quadriga Capital took over the company entirely in 2013.
