Euclides is a relatively small, bowl-shaped impact crater on the front of the moon in the plain of Oceanus Procellarum , northwest of the Montes Riphaeus .

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1935 after the Greek mathematician Euclid .

The side crater Euclides D was named after the German pathologist Hans Eppinger junior in 1976 to honor his achievements in the field of research into liver diseases and circulatory disorders. The appointment was annulled in 2002 by the IAU after Eppinger participation in experiments with inmates of the Dachau concentration camp during the time of National Socialism of the Working Group for Planetary System Nomenclature (WGPSN) of the IAU was known.
