Eugène Goossens (born January 28, 1867 in Bordeaux , † December 31, 1958 in London ) was a French conductor and violinist of Belgian origin.

Life

Goossens was the son of the Belgian conductor of the same name, Eugène Goossens . He studied violin with Alexandre Cornelis at the Brussels Conservatory and composition with François-Auguste Gevaert , then between 1891 and 1892 at the Royal Academy of Music in London. Under the direction of his father, he played in the orchestra of the opera company Carl Rosa Company , which was known in England at the time, and succeeded it as principal conductor in 1899. Goossens remained a successful conductor of the company until 1915. In 1926 he was accepted as a member of the British National Opera Company.

Eugène Goossens was the father of the composer and conductor Sir Eugène Aynsley Goossens (1893–1962), the harpists Marie Goossens (1894–1991) and Sidonie Goossens (1899–2004), the horn player Adolph Goossens (1896–1916) and the oboist Léon Goossens (1897-1988).
