Eugène Rémy Maes
Eugène Rémy Maes (born January 23, 1849 in Puurs , † 1931 in Kontich ) was a Belgian animal painter.
He was born to Ivo Guillaume Maes and Joanna Maria Maes. He was a student at the Académie royale des Beaux-Arts de Bruxelles .
After completing his studies, he painted almost exclusively animals such as sheep and cattle, but mainly poultry such as chickens and pigeons. In addition to painting her own animals, she worked with well-known genre painters such as David Col , Gerard Portielje and Jan Portielje and painted the animals in her paintings.
He delivered a large part of his works to the American art dealer Albert D'Huyvetter and his son Albert junior. Many paintings came to the United States this way .
Maes sometimes used the pseudonyms "Ermaes" and "Théo Van Sluys". The latter had been the name of his family member.
