David Col
Jan David Col (born April 6, 1822 in Antwerp , † February 19, 1900 there ) was a Belgian genre painter.
Jan David Col studied at the Koninklijke Academie voor Schone Kunsten van Antwerpen with Nicaise de Keyser .
From the beginning he painted humorous and anecdotal genre scenes from the lives of his contemporaries. His first exhibition in 1846 brought him success. The influence of Jean-Baptiste Madou and Ferdinand de Braekeleer is noticeable in his early works .
When painting his genre paintings, he turned to Eugène Rémy Maes (poultry), Henriëtte Ronner-Knip (cats), and Constant Boon (flowers and fruits) for help .
