Eugène Rodenbourg

Eugène Rodenbourg (born September 18, 1895 in Luxembourg ; † October 1, 1975 ) was a Luxembourg lawyer .

Life

The son of a farmer studied law in Munich , Bonn , Paris and Leuven and received his doctorate in this discipline in 1920. In 1927 he took up a position as justice of the peace in Rédange . In the following years he worked at the district courts in Diekirch and Luxembourg . In 1937 Rodenbourg was appointed Advocate General, in 1945 Procureur d'Etat . In 1946 he took over the presidency of the Luxembourg District Court.

A year later he was appointed to the State Council of Luxembourg, of which he was a member until 1972, the last three years as Vice-President. He also worked at numerous other courts: from 1955 as Deputy President of the Franco-Saar Court of Arbitration, from 1957 as Vice-President of the Franco-German Mixed Court established under the Luxembourg Treaty and from 1959 as Vice-President of the Supreme Court of Luxembourg. In 1960 he was named Honorary Vice President of the Supreme Court. As the first Luxembourg judge, he was elected to the newly established European Court of Human Rights in 1959.

Rodenbourg was awarded the Order of the Oak Crown (Komtur class) and the Legion of Honor (Knight class).
