The house Eugen-Kaiser-Straße 17a is a residential and commercial building in the Hessian city of Hanau . It was built in 1908/10 according to plans by the Hanau architect Georg Clormann on the north-western edge of the city center.

location

The building is located in the vicinity of the Heinrich-Fischer-Bad and west of the palace gardens . Eugen-Kaiser-Strasse and the area to the northwest of the old town of Hanau have numerous valuable buildings from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, including the former district building (Eugen-Kaiser-Strasse 9, built in 1902/1903) and diagonally opposite the property a villa in the neo-renaissance style (corner house Heinrich-Bott-Str. 11, built around / before 1897). Despite the destruction of the city of Hanau in March 1945, enough of the building's substance remained to be rebuilt in the post-war period, while monuments closer to the old town such as the City Palace were demolished in the 1950s.

architecture

Following the contemporary taste of late historicism , Clormann made use of traditional forms of the German country house style . Details of the spacious and detailed villa in solid construction, in particular the design of the gable of the dwelling , borrow from the reform architecture that had formed a few years earlier .

The building is considered one of the most traditionalist in the work of Clormann, who otherwise specializes in New Objectivity . It is a cultural monument due to the Hessian Monument Protection Act for artistic, historical and urban planning reasons.

Since 1978 the seat of the local office of the workers' welfare is housed in the house .
