career

Gauliga, until 1944

Three months before his 18th birthday, Eugen Fischer, who came from the VfB youth team, made his debut on September 26, 1937, a home game against local rivals FC Phoenix Karlsruhe, in a 2-0 win as a center forward in the Gauliga Baden. The young player was able to recommend himself for further appearances and was used in ten other league games at VfB Mühlburg during the course of the round. VfR Mannheim became champions in the Gauliga Baden and Mühlburg took 8th place. In the Tschammerpokal in 1938 he played two games against VfB Peine (6: 1) and the later finalists FSV Frankfurt (1: 3) and in 1939 he lost with VfB on November 19, 1939 in an away game against SC Wacker Wien with 2: 4, as a center forward he scored both goals against the Wacker defensive led by Josef Pekarek . In the first round of the war in 1939/40 he was only able to take part in two games in the group phase in Mittelbaden and was only able to start in three games (1 goal) when he reached the runner-up in the final round behind master SV Waldhof. The personally most successful round was experienced by "the hardest-working of the hard-working and girls for everyone" in the 1940/41 season: He was again runner- up with VfB in Baden (now area class) behind the new champions VfL Neckarau, but scored 17 goals in 16 appearances and finished second in the list of goalscorers behind Willi Preschle von Meister Neckarau (25 goals), in front of club mate Hugo Rastetter with 16 goals. After the first half of the season, Fischer and his teammates from Mühlburg had topped the table with 16 points, three points ahead of Neckarau. The decisive game for the championship was lost in the second half of the season on March 2, 1941 in front of 5500 spectators with 1: 4 in the stadium at the Altriper ferry with 1: 4 against host Neckarau. Fischer scored the consolation goal. This season, the strong Mühlburg player also played two games in the Baden region: On October 6 and November 3, 1940 against the Sudetenland (3: 2 a.s.) and Berlin-Brandenburg (2: 0), where he respectively was used as a half-forward for Baden.

Oberliga Süd, 1947 to 1952

After the end of World War II, the two old masters Karlsruher FV and FC Phönix from Karlsruhe were included in the new Oberliga Süd, Mühlburg was included in the substructure of the Landesliga Nordbaden. In the second year, 1946/47 , VfB won the season championship in group south and in two playoffs against the north season winner ASV Feudenheim (1-0, 4: 2) also the north Baden state league championship and thus promotion to the first class of the Oberliga Süd for the 1947/48 season. The league debut for Eugen Fischer and VfB Mühlburg took place on September 7, 1947 at the home game against the Stuttgarter Kickers. In front of 20,000 spectators, the game was lost 3-0. The climber fought to stay in the league and finished 14th in the season of 20 with 33:43 points at the end of the round. Fischer had mostly played as a left wing runner at the side of teammates such as Max Fischer , Hugo Raststetter and Oswald Traub in 24 league games. On September 1, 1948, he represented the Baden colors in a game against the Lower Rhine on the KFV square at the Telegrafenkaserne. In the 3-1 victory, he was the right wing runner at the side of teammates like Fritz Balogh , Georg Herbold , Paul Lipponer and Karl Vetter . In the second and third league years, 1948/49 and 1949/50, he did not miss any of the 60 round games and once again impressively demonstrated his importance for the VfB game. When the presidium relied on high-performing newcomers from the major leagues such as Horst Buhtz (Kickers Offenbach) and Heinz Trenkel (Hamburger SV) from the 1950/51 season , the veteran 's missions went back and he ended with the home game on May 10, 1952 VfL Neckarau, with a 7-1 success, after a total of 104 league appearances (2 goals) his activity at VfB Mühlburg.

Fischer ended his career in 1952/53 with FC Rastatt 04 in the 1st Amateur League South Baden as a player-coach. As a trainer in the amateur field, he worked for the FV 1912 Wiesental in the rounds from 1965 to 1967 and 1969 to 1971.
