Eugen Hoffmann

Eugen Hoffmann (born September 27, 1892 in Dresden ; † July 1, 1955 there ) was a German sculptor and graphic artist.

From 1908 to 1912 he trained as a pattern maker for wallpaper in Dresden, while also attending evening courses at Carl Rade's School of Applied Arts . After 1912 Hoffmann worked briefly as a freelance painter and sculptor. From 1915 he did military service and was taken prisoner in Ukraine. In 1918 he studied at the Dresden Academy with Robert Diez and from 1919 as a master student of Karl Albiker . In 1920 Hoffmann became a member of the Dresden Secession Group in 1919 , later he was a member of the Dresden Secession 1932 . He became a member of the KPD in 1923 . In 1924 he took part in the First General German Art Exhibition in Moscow and in 1929 co-founded the ASSO in Dresden. In 1938 he emigrated to Prague and in 1939 to England. In 1946 he returned to Dresden, in 1947 he became a professor of sculpture at the academy.

Hoffmann died in 1955 and was buried in the Heidefriedhof .
