Werner-Eugen Hoffmann

Werner-Eugen Hoffmann (born November 7, 1910 in Konitz ; † 1998 ) was a retired German colonel . G. of the Luftwaffe of the Wehrmacht , later in the Bundeswehr, most recently Lieutenant General and Deputy Commander in the headquarters of the NATO Command Baltic Sea Exits (BALTAP).

biography

Hoffmann, whose family left their Pomeranian homeland in 1923, graduated from high school in Berlin in 1930 and then attended the police school in Burg near Magdeburg as an officer candidate for the Prussian Political Police . On April 1, 1935 he was promoted to lieutenant , shortly afterwards switched to the air force, where he was trained as an aircraft pilot.

Second World War

As a captain and squadron captain in Kampfgeschwader 51 , he took part in several war missions before completing general staff training at Air War School 2 in Berlin-Gatow by 1942 . After a logistical assignment as a group leader of the 4th division in the General Staff of the Air Force, he took over on May 15, 1943 as a lieutenant colonel and group commander of the 2nd group of transport wing 4 . After serving as quartermaster of the Feldluftgau Command XXVI ( Riga ) from November 1943, he served as Colonel i. G. and senior quartermaster initially in the Italian air fleet , then in the Reich air fleet until the end of the war .

From 1952 to 1955, Hoffmann was a senior staff engineer in the Planning Department / Air Force Preparatory Tasks Department in the Blank Office , which was named the Federal Ministry of Defense on June 7, 1955 . From 1957 to 1958 he was Colonel Chief of Staff at the Air Force Command North (from October 1957 Air Force Group North). With the rank of brigadier general , he became commander of the 2nd Air Defense Division in January 1961, which later became the 2nd Air Force Division . After that he was from October 1, 1962 to September 30, 1963 Deputy Inspector of the Air Force and Chief of the Air Force Command , at the time with the rank of Major General . He then returned to the Air Force Group North as commanding general . In this position, which he held until March 31, 1968, he was already lieutenant general. After serving as Deputy Commander in the headquarters of NATO's Baltic Sea Exits Command, he was retired.
