Eugen Krebs (born May 1, 1848 in Freiburg im Breisgau ; † May 31, 1912 there ) was a German banker .

Life

Eugen Krebs came from the Freiburg bank JA Krebs , his father was the company owner Joseph Alexander Krebs III. (1802-1861). He first studied engineering and became a private lecturer at the Polytechnic in Aachen .

After his brother Adolf Krebs I (1841–1874) died unexpectedly, in 1874 he took over the management of the family's own bank, supported by his uncle Johann Krebs (1813–1895). In addition to his work as a banker, he was active in numerous committees, for example from 1878 he was a city councilor in Freiburg. He also worked for the Caritas Association under Lorenz Werthmann .

From June 30th to July 8th, 1882 Franz Liszt stayed as a guest in his house on Freiburg's Münsterplatz.

Eugen Krebs had 10 children, his sons Adolf Krebs II (1876–1960) and Eugen Krebs (1877–1943), who joined the bank as partners in 1905, took over management of the bank after his death. Other of his children were the painter and graphic artist Karl Krebs (1880-1914) and the Catholic church historian Engelbert Krebs (1881-1950).
