Eugen Seidelmann

Eugen Seidelmann (born April 12, 1806 in Rengersdorf bei Glatz , † July 31, 1864 in Breslau ) was a German conductor and composer .

Life

Born the son of a cantor, Seidelmann studied Catholic theology in Breslau after attending the Glatzer Gymnasium . During his studies he became a member of the Arminia Breslau fraternity in 1826 . In 1828 he headed the Academic Music Association . After completing his studies, he was Kapellmeister at the City Theater in Breslau from 1830 to 1864 . In 1841 he married the soprano Marie Dickmann. In addition to two operas, he composed numerous works of church music , dramatic music, cantatas , instrumental music and chamber music . In 1864 he collapsed while rehearsing Don Giovanni and died five days later. He was buried in the Mauritius cemetery in Breslau.
