Eugene Pierce Gillespie

Eugene Pierce Gillespie (born September 24, 1852 in Greenville , Mercer County , Pennsylvania , †  December 16, 1899 there ) was an American politician . Between 1891 and 1893 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Eugene Gillespie attended his home public schools and Allegheny College in Meadville . He then studied at St. Michael's College in Canadian Toronto . After a subsequent law degree and his admission as a lawyer in 1874, he began to work in Greenville in this profession. Politically, he joined the Democratic Party .

In the congressional elections of 1890 Gillespie was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 25th  constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded Republican Charles Champlain Townsend on March 4, 1891 . Since he was not confirmed in 1892, he could only serve one term in Congress until March 3, 1893 . Then Gillespie practiced again as a lawyer in Greenville, where he died on December 16, 1899.
