Charles Champlain Townsend

Charles Champlain Townsend (born November 24, 1841 in Pittsburgh , Pennsylvania , †  July 10, 1910 in New Brighton , Pennsylvania) was an American politician . Between 1889 and 1891 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Charles Townsend attended public schools in his home country and then studied at the Western University of Pennsylvania , now the University of Pittsburgh . Then he made wire rivets and nails. During the Civil War he served in the Union Army for two years . Politically, he became a member of the Republican Party . In the congressional election of 1888 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 25th  constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded James Thompson Maffett on March 4, 1889 .

Since Townsend waived another candidacy in 1890, he could only serve one term in Congress until March 3, 1891 . After his time in the US House of Representatives, he resumed his previous work. He died on July 10, 1910 in New Brighton, where he was also buried.
