Eugenio Cardinal Tosi OSSCA (born May 6, 1864 in Busto Arsizio , Province of Varese , Italy , †  January 7, 1929 in Milan ) was Archbishop of Milan .

Life

Eugenio Tosi studied Catholic theology and philosophy at the seminaries in Monza and Milan . He received on June 4, 1887 in Milan, the sacrament of Holy Orders , and then worked as a parish pastor in the Archdiocese of Milan. In 1889 he entered the congregation Oblates of Charles and St. Ambrose . From 1889 to 1909 he taught at the Oblate Mission House in Rho . From 1909 to 1911 he headed the administration of the Diocese of Rimini as vicar general .

1911 Pope named him Pius X to the Bishop of Squillace . The episcopal ordination received Eugenio Tosi on May 16, 1911 by Andrea Carlo Cardinal Ferrari , Archbishop of Milan. In 1917 Benedict XV appointed him . to the Bishop of Andria . In addition, Tosi administered the diocese of Squillace as Apostolic Administrator until 1918 . After his election as Pope , Pope Pius XI. Eugenio Tosi on March 22, 1922 as his successor as Archbishop of Milan and took him on December 11 of the same year as a cardinal priest with the titular church Santi Silvestro e Martino ai Monti in the college of cardinals . His motto was: Ora et labora (“Pray and work”).

Eugenio Tosi died on January 7, 1929 in Milan and was buried in the Milan Cathedral .
