The Eulenburg is a technical monument and architectural monument in Osterode am Harz .

location

The building complex is located on Scheerenberger Strasse, which runs through the Sösetal as federal road 498 , about 2 km east of the city center in the direction of the Sösetalsperre .

history

Ludewig Greve came from a family that had been processing textiles in the Osterode area since early modern times . Together with Eduard Uhl, he founded the Greve & Uhl textile factory in Osterode, then part of the Landdrostei Hildesheim . Other family members continued the company. From 1883 a jacquard loom was operated . With the help of the zoologist Gustav Jäger , the company then made blankets out of camel hair and became known worldwide.

The operation was ultimately closed in the 1960s for economic reasons.

building

Several brick buildings from around 1900 and 1925 have been preserved and are now mainly used commercially, in some cases also as apartments. The old machine house and other buildings have been preserved. The buildings mostly have a shed roof , so that kestrels occasionally settle there.
