Eupatorus birmanicus is a species of beetle from the family of scarabs (Scarabaeidae) in the group of scarabids (Scarabaeoidea).
Life and occurrence
The life cycle runs over two years, of which the larvae , which emerges four months after the eggs are laid, lasts 15-20 months. The larva develops in dead wood . The adult beetle lives on nectar and sap that leaks from wounds on trees. The males use their horns to fight over the females.
Eupatorus birmanicus is common in Myanmar and north-west Thailand .
Appearance
Eupatorus birmanicus is a large (male beetle up to 70 millimeters), semi-glossy, brown-black horned beetle. The body shape is relatively broad and arched. The body has numerous hard hairs. The male Eupatorus birmanicus has a long, thin, curved horn on the head, one horn on either side of the pronotum, and a pair of horns in the center of the pronotum that point almost straight up and are slightly curved. Because of the shape of these horns, it is also known as 'rabbit-eared'.
