Euphorbia actinoclada is a species of the genus spurge ( Euphorbia ) in the family of Euphorbiaceae (Euphorbiaceae).
description
The succulent Euphorbia actinoclada is a dwarf shrub with an underground main shoot that merges into a thick, fleshy root. The upright twigs are up to 15 cm long and 1 cm in diameter and spread out at the top. In cross-section they are petal-round to slightly pentagonal. Their surface is dark green with lighter vertical stripes. The gray-brown thorn shields are elongated up to 10 mm and each carry a single thorn up to 2 cm in length. Furthermore, secondary leaf spines up to 3 mm long are formed. The leaves of Euphorbia actinoclada are rudimentary and short-lived.
The individual, single-forked inflorescences are stalked 1 mm long. The cyathia they carry are reddish and 4 mm in diameter. The rectangular nectar glands are reddish in color and touch each other.
Systematics and distribution
Euphorbia actinoclada is distributed in Kenya , Ethiopia and up to the southwest of Somalia at altitudes of 150 to 900 m. There it grows on gravelly slopes with loose bushes. The first description was published in 1982 by Susan Carter Holmes .
