Euphorbia adjurana is a species of the genus spurge ( Euphorbia ) in the family of Euphorbiaceae (Euphorbiaceae).

description

The succulent Euphorbia adjurana grows with spread branches and forms trees up to 7 meters high. The terminal branches are four to hexagonal and 2 to 5 centimeters wide. The shoots are provided with inverted conical constrictions that form segments 5 to 15 centimeters long. On the winged edges there are curved teeth at a distance of 5 to 15 millimeters. The thorn shields grow together to form a 4 millimeter wide horn rim. The thorns are 2 to 15 millimeters long. The indistinct stipple spines become 0.5 millimeters long. In addition to these, thorns up to 3.5 millimeters long are formed on both sides of the inflorescences.

The inflorescence consists of one to three cymes that stand in a horizontal line and are forked one to two times. They stand on a stalk up to 7.5 millimeters long. The cyathia are up to 7 millimeters in diameter. The elliptical nectar glands are about 1.8 millimeters long and 3.5 millimeters long. They are colored yellow and almost touch each other. The ovary is surrounded by a three-lobed flower cover. The bluntly lobed fruit is about 7.5 millimeters wide and 12 millimeters long. It is red-brown in color and almost sitting. The approximately spherical and smooth seed is 3.3 millimeters wide and 3 millimeters long.

Distribution and systematics

Euphorbia adjurana is distributed in the south of Ethiopia to the north of Kenya on rocky hill sides with dense shrubbery at altitudes of 700 to 1200 meters. The species is on the IUCN Red List and is considered endangered (Vulnerable).

The species was first described in 1982 by Peter René Oscar Bally and Susan Carter Holmes .
