Euphrasia of the Sacred Heart of Jesus CMC (civil Rosa Eluvathingal ) (born October 7, 1877 in the village of Edathuruthy, Kattoor parish ( Diocese of Irinjalakuda ), India ; † August 29, 1952 in Ollur, Kerala , ( Archdiocese of Trichur ), India) was an Indian Nun and mystic . She is venerated as a saint in the Catholic Church .

Life

After a vision , Rosa Eluvathingal decided to become a religious. In 1897 she joined the sisters of the Congregation of Mother of Carmel in Koonammavu. On January 10, 1898, she was clothed and was given the religious name Euphrasia of the Sacred Heart of Jesus .

In 1900 Sr. Euphrasia was sent by the local bishop to the newly founded convent of the Discalced Carmelites in Ollur, where she was novice master from 1903 to 1913 and was elected prioress for a term of office from 1913 to 1916 . From 1916 she no longer held any important offices and otherwise led a life of perpetual prayer. Because of her love for Eucharistic adoration , she was also called "Mother Tabernacle".

Adoration

Sr. Euphrasia of the Sacred Heart of Jesus was beatified on December 3, 2006 in Ollur . Pope Francis canonized Sr. Euphrasia on November 23, 2014, the Feast of Christ the King . Her feast day in the liturgy is August 29th .
