Life

Euphrosina heroine of Dieffenau came from the Strasbourg family hero of depth (f) enau and was probably a daughter of the Palatine steward Samuel hero of Tiefenau, more likely, however, by his brother Gerson hero of Tiefenau (around 1529-1583), Council Mömpelgard and Castellan on Sponeck Castle .

After the early death of Anna Maria von der Pfalz , the first wife of the later King Karl IX. , 1589 Euphrosina was appointed foster mother and court master of Princess Katharina . From this a lifelong friendship developed between the two women. Katharina was the only one of six children from this marriage who survived childhood. From his second marriage to Christine von Schleswig-Holstein-Gottorf , the king had four more children, including Katharina's half-brother, who later became King Gustav II of Sweden .

Euphrosina Heldin von Dieffenau married the Spanish colonel in the Swedish service Alphonso Cacho y de Canuto. In 1614 she was a widow. She returned to court service and remained in her service after Katharina's marriage to Johann Kasimir (Pfalz-Zweibrücken-Kleeburg) . Presumably she was the godmother of Marie Euphrosine von Pfalz-Zweibrücken-Kleeburg .

She was described as very educated, knew Latin and taught Gustav Adolf reading and prayers. She died very old at the age of 87 at Stegeborg Castle and was buried in Skällvik Church (Skällviks kyrka).
