Christoph II of Baden-Rodemachern (born February 26, 1537 , † August 2, 1575 in Rodemachern ) was Margrave of Baden zu Rodemachern .

Life

Christoph II. Was the second son of Bernhard III. of Baden-Baden and Franziska (Françoise) of Luxembourg .

When he came of age in 1556, Christoph II ceded the rights to Baden-Baden to his older brother Philibert for an annual fee of 4,000 guilders and received the Margraviate of Baden-Rodemachern as an allowance, which gave him a separate branch of the House of Baden- Baden donated.

Then he went on a journey. From 1557 he was in the Netherlands and attended the campaigns of the Spanish army until he went to Sweden in 1561, where he married a sister of King Eric XIV of Sweden in 1564. Thereupon he returned to Rodemachern, built a castle and ran a lavish court; In 1565 he traveled to London, where Queen Elizabeth welcomed him with honor, there piled debts upon debts and could not leave the country in 1566 until the Queen had given him a guarantee.

In 1566 he inherited the lords of Useldingen , Pittingen , from his mother , who had them as Wittum . The inheritance also included the rule Roussy , which his mother had inherited from her father. Since he did not limit his expenses and his country suffered from the religious unrest, he got deeper and deeper into debt and finally went to Sweden, where he fought on the side of Sweden against Denmark and his brother-in-law, King John III. of Sweden , who gave the island of Ösel a fief. Only after several years did he return to the German Empire and died in 1575. His son Eduard Fortunat followed him as a minor.
