Euro-Toques is a non-commercial association of European chefs based in Brussels with the aim of supporting traditional, artisanal producers, promoting quality products, preserving Europe's culinary traditions and ensuring that chefs use food responsibly. The national section is Euro-Toques Germany eV based in Bayreuth .

history

The organization was founded on November 18, 1986 by the Belgian Baron Pierre Romeyer with the support of the President of the European Commission Jacques Delors . The founding members included the chefs Paul Bocuse from France and Eckart Witzigmann from Germany, as well as Gualtiero Marchesi , Cas Spijkers , René Jacquemin , David Miller , Myrtle Allen , Arne Fusager , Dimitrios Karatzenis , Juan Maria Arzac and Michel Da Costa . In Germany, the first chefs in 1986 were at Euro-Toques Eckart Witzigmann as founding president, as well as Heinz Winkler , Hans-Peter Wodarz and Günther Scherrer . Ernst-Ulrich Schassberger founded World Toques from 2008 after he was voted out of Germany as chairman of Euro-Toques and from 2008 to 2016 also used the name Euro-Toques, so that there were two competing associations in Germany that were named under the the same name occurred. In a court settlement it was agreed that Schassberger should use another name for his association, which begins with Toques. In 2016 the organization celebrated its 30th anniversary. At the beginning of 2017 the organization had 150 members in Germany.

The name "Euro-Toques" is made up of the terms Euro for Europe and Toques for la toque (French for chef hat ), the chef's symbol . The basic philosophy of “Euro-Toques” is anchored in the code of honor that every Euro-Toques chef is obliged to adhere to. Above all, it is about the use of seasonal and fresh, genuine products and traditional recipes in order to preserve the continued existence of locally produced products and the diversity of the European culinary heritage. In addition to consumer protection , it is also about information and training for consumers. According to its statutes, Euro-Toques has philanthropic, scientific and educational goals. Euro-Toques Deutschland eV carries out taste sensitization in children and adolescents, but also in adults. This work is supported by the Baden-Württemberg Cooperative State University in Heilbronn. There is also a close connection to the Culinary Forum Rhein-Neckar, which is also anchored in the statutes.
