Hans-Peter Wodarz

Hans-Peter Wodarz (born March 28, 1948 in Wiesbaden ) is a German chef , restaurateur and event manager. He became known for his restaurants “Die Ente im Lehel” in Munich and “Die Ente vom Lehel” in Wiesbaden and the establishment of event gastronomy with the restaurant theaters “Panem et Circenses”, “Pomp Duck and Circumstance” and “Hans-Peter” Wodarz Palazzo ”.

Life

Wodarz began as a page in the Wiesbaden hotel "Rose", where he also completed an apprenticeship as a cook. After various positions in Great Britain and Germany, he worked in Munich in the kitchen of the “Tantris” restaurant, which was managed by Eckart Witzigmann . In 1975 Wodarz opened his own restaurant, "Die Ente im Lehel", also in Munich, which he continued from 1979 in the Wiesbaden hotel "Nassauer Hof" as "Die Ente vom Lehel". Wodarz wrote culinary history with the “Dialogue of Fruits”, “Calf's Brain with Smoked Eel and Goose Liver” and with “Lobster with Lamb in Puff Pastry” in the 1980s.

Experience gastronomy

Wodarz began to turn to experience gastronomy in 1990 and founded Die Ente vom Lehel GmbH . After the first project “Panem et Circenses” in collaboration with Bernhard Paul and Alfons Schuhbeck , a new production followed in 1993 under the name “Pomp Duck and Circumstance”, which made guest appearances in various national and international cities, including Berlin for 6 years . The restaurant staff consisting of actors and artists offered a show with slapstick and juggling at the same time . After failed business attempts in New York and Atlanta and a partial takeover of the company by the Canadian Cirque du Soleil , Wodarz returned to Germany in 1996 with "Pomp Duck and Circumstance". In 2001 Cirque du Soleil sold its shares to Arabella Holding Munich.

At the beginning of 2006, Wodarz resigned as a partner in “Pomp Duck and Circumstance”. From May 2006 to May 2007, Wodarz and Spielbank Berlin Entertainment presented the show “Belle et Fou - The Game with Lust”, which combined upscale gastronomy and erotic theater.

From November 2007 to March 2008, in co-production with Palazzo Produktionen GmbH Hamburg , Wodarz organized a mirror tent project with singing waiters and waitresses in Berlin, in the Lehrter district between the main train station and the Federal Chancellery. He then advised catering projects in Berlin, including "Hooters", "The 4 Allies" and "Aschinger".

In November 2008 the "Hans-Peter Wodarz Palazzo" will return to Berlin with the show Concerto for Duck, Sage & Chilli Chocolate Cake and a feast in three acts. In addition, Hans-Peter Wodarz is one of the four top chefs who create the menu in the Munich PALAZZO in Four Top Chefs and a Count - as the “Lord of the Ducks”, Wodarz is responsible for the main course, duck.

The collaboration with Palazzo in Berlin continued in the following years and continues to this day: Around four months a year - from November to the beginning of March - Hans-Peter Wodarz presents the annual new Palazzo shows and menus in the mirror tent at Berlin's Humboldthafen .

In the seasons 2009/10 to 2012/13 he was supported by the chef Christian Lohse , since 2013/14 the chef Kolja Kleeberg , former head chef of the Berlin restaurant VAU , has been creating the menu in the Kolja Kleeberg & Hans-Peter Wodarz Palazzo .

Parallel to his involvement at PALAZZO, Hans-Peter Wodarz and his event agency Ducks & More organize catering projects all over the world - e.g. B. for the car racing spectacle City-Challenge , which he provided gastronomic support for a race in Baku in 2012 and in 2014 he helped design events in Cuba and Moscow .

Since 2009, Hans-Peter Wodarz has also been co-producer of the weekly TV show Berlin cooks on the private broadcaster TV Berlin , which deals with the culinary side of the capital.

The magazine “Feinschmecker” recognized Wodarz as one of the “30 light figures of the culinary way of life in Germany”.

Wodarz says of himself that he must have served 1,500,000 ducks in his life. He collects ducks in all art forms privately and currently lives in Berlin and Wiesbaden.
