The European Media and Business Academy ( EMBA ) is a private business academy within the scope of the accredited “Decentralized University Studies” (DHS) of the Mittweida University of Applied Sciences .

history

The European Media and Business Academy was founded in 2007. It is based in Hamburg, Berlin and, since April 1, 2011, in Düsseldorf. The location in Düsseldorf's Medienhafen is in the Colorium . It was expanded in 2013 and currently has space for 230 students. In Hamburg, the EMBA is located in Hamburg-Eppendorf and in Berlin-Wilmersdorf on the MedienCampus. 85% of the EMBA is sponsored by the EUBA - European Education and Training Company, and 15% by AMAK AG of the Mittweida University of Applied Sciences. The majority shareholder of the EUBA is the media entrepreneur Thomas Dittrich. The DHS model enables private studies at the EMBA that conclude with a degree from a state university.

courses

The EMBA specializes in the media and management courses "Applied Media", "Business Management" and "Digital Business Management". In the three courses of study, you can choose from 16 fields of study. The six-semester Bachelor's degree programs and directions were re-accredited or accredited (Digital Business Management) by the Central Evaluation and Accreditation Agency in 2016 .

For the 2017/2018 winter semester, the EMBA consists of 25 permanent employees as well as 250 lecturers and lecturers with around 500 students at three locations in Hamburg, Düsseldorf and Berlin. Among the guest lecturers are Manfred Güllner , managing director of the opinion research institute “ forsa ”, Bernd Kundrun , former publishing director of Gruner & Jahr , Claus Strunz , former editor-in-chief of the Hamburger Abendblatt and Thomas Voigt, communications director at Otto-Versand .

Scientific Advisory Board

The Scientific Advisory Board consists of Ludwig Hilmer (Rector of the Mittweida University and founding dean of the Media Faculty), Günther Grassau (Dean of Media Management at the Mittweida University) and Michael Hösel (dean of the Media Faculty at the Mittweida University). The scientific advisory board supports the academic management of the EMBA in day-to-day studies and advises on the further and further development of study programs.

Prizes and awards

The student David Rothenhäuser won the INA gold event award in 2009 for his concept of a three-day public event for the press and the public for the launch of a hybrid car. The briefing was provided by the Düsseldorf agency Hagen Invent.

Also in 2009 at the World Media Festival in Hamburg, an EMBA project group was established for the image film Wellcome: Helfende Engel with the “Intermedia Globe Silver” in the category, which it produced for the non-profit organization “Wellcome” as part of the Applied Media course "Human Relations and Values" honored.
