European sustainability week

The European Sustainable Development Week (European Sustainable Development Week, ESDW) is a pan-European initiative to promote sustainable development . It takes place annually from May 30th to June 5th.

Background, goals, story

The idea of ​​such a week on the topic of sustainability was presented to the Council of EU Environment Ministers on October 28, 2014 by the environment ministers of France, Germany and Austria . Background is defined by the United Nations adopted Agenda 2030 for sustainable development and the associated 17 targets for sustainable development .

Accordingly, the Sustainability Week aims to initiate activities, projects and events that contribute to sustainable development, to make them visible on a common platform and thereby encourage the citizens of Europe to actively deal with sustainable development and the 17 goals.

The Sustainability Week was held for the first time in 2015. The existing German Sustainability Action Days were integrated into the framework of the European Sustainability Week.

Organization, partner

Government agencies, research centers, educational institutions, museums, foundations, associations and companies as well as citizens can register their events, activities and projects on the platform. The European Sustainability Week is coordinated by the office of the European Sustainable Development Network (ESDN Office) at the Institute for Sustainability Management at the Vienna University of Economics and Business .
