The European Institute for International Economic Relations (EIIW) is an economics affiliate at the Bergische Universität Wuppertal , Freudenberg campus.

history

The EIIW was founded in Potsdam in 1996 and moved to the Freudenberg campus in Wuppertal in 2003 . It brought out award-winning publications and has extensive international networks. In 2007/08 Alfred Grosser held a visiting professorship there . In 2007 it received the internationally important Kondratieff Prize (silver medal) and in 1996 it was awarded the Wolfgang Ritter Foundation .

tasks

The institute's work focuses on international economic relations, integration, innovation, energy and factor markets, and economic policy . The institute publishes the Journal International Economics and Economic Policy magazine and published almost 30 books by 2013.

In addition, there are several fixed research focuses:

  • European integration and transatlantic economic relations
  • Energy industry, resource economics and infrastructure economics
  • Optimization of economic policy decision-making processes and development of specific European policy perspectives
  • International labor market development, social systems and health economics
  • Comparative innovation and start-up dynamics
  • Monetary analysis, banking development and capital markets
  • Telecommunications industry and information society
  • Market economy system and transformation analysis

In addition to own projects, research projects for foundations, governments or international organizations are carried out. Up to now, partners have included the private Johns Hopkins University , the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Maastricht University's Economic Institute .

staff

It is headed by Paul JJ Welfens , owner of the Jean Monnet Chair for European Economic Integration and the Chair of Macroeconomics at the Schumpeter School of Business and Economics at the Bergische Universität Wuppertal. Welfens is also a Fellow at the Institute for the Future of Work in Bonn and a Non-resident Senior Fellow at the American Institute for Contemporary German Studies at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore ( USA ). The Vice President is Wilfried Fuhrmann from the University of Potsdam .

The other staff includes six research assistants, seven student assistants and one person in the secretariat.
