European Association for the Study of Diabetes
The European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD) is a professional society of doctors , scientists , laboratory technicians , nurses and students whose aim is to support research on diabetes mellitus , to disseminate research results quickly and to promote their practical application.
The society, which was founded in 1965 in the Italian city of Montecatini Terme , has more than 7,000 members from over 110 countries. The activities of the EASD include the implementation of annual conferences with 12,000 to 16,000 participants, the awarding of scientific prizes and the publication of the specialist journal Diabetologia . The allocation of funds for research projects via the 1999 founded Foundation European Foundation for the Study of Diabetes , which has provided since its inception more than 70 million euros and is in the field of diabetes research in Europe to major funding institutions.
The seat is in Düsseldorf .
