European Commercial Internet Exchange ( ECIX ) is (after DE-CIX ) the second largest Internet node in Germany.

Under the name ECIX, Peering GmbH operates commercial Internet nodes in the cities of Amsterdam, Berlin, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt am Main and Hamburg.

The ECIX has more than 170 members who are connected with bandwidths from 1 Gbit / s to 100 Gbit / s. At the various locations, it is represented in several data centers with its own switch infrastructure. These are connected to one another via dark fiber and WDM connections from 1 Gbit / s to 100 Gbit / s. The data exchange (“ peering ”) between the providers takes place via IPv4 and IPv6 .

technology

The distributed switch infrastructure enables Internet service providers to exchange data free of charge. Customers can be connected via one or more 1 Gbit / s, 10 Gbit / s, 40 Gbit / s or 100 Gbit / s Ethernet ports. The ECIX uses Extreme Networks , Force10 , Brocade and Cisco Ethernet switches.
