WORK-IX

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The work-ix is an Internet node in Hamburg .

development

The WORK-IX was originally a project of the Hamburg internet service provider n @ work. He has been in the company since 2002 and served as the successor to the then discontinued INX-HH . In 2007, DE-CIX Management GmbH, based in Cologne, took over the operation and marketing of WORK-IX. Since then, new customers such as Google , Lambdanet and Versatel have decided to connect to the WORK-IX. The new location in Hamburg is intended to enable existing customers and new customers to establish peerings in northern Germany in order to create redundancies and save line costs. Work-IX has been marketed as DE-CIX Hamburg since the end of 2012.

technology

The switch infrastructure enables ISPs to exchange data free of charge (“ peering ”). The customers are connected via Ethernet ports with bandwidths between 100 Mbit / s and 100 Gbit / s. The so-called Apollon platform is used for this (as of early 2018).

The switches are operated in the data centers of the company n @ work and Incolocate, which are located in Hamburg-Hamm in the Luise office center (Wendenstrasse 379). Further data centers are located in the building, as the location is one of the most important network nodes in the Hanseatic city , in which all major carriers are represented.

capacity

The WORK-IX has a peak throughput of around 40 Gbit / s.
