Interxion is a provider of cloud and carrier- neutral data center services for colocation . The company currently operates 53  data centers in eleven European countries, 13 of them in Frankfurt am Main and two in Düsseldorf . Interxion offers access to more than 700 carriers and Internet Service Providers (ISPs) as well as 21 Internet nodes , including DE-CIX . Interxion was founded in 1998 in the Netherlands , with its headquarters located at Schiphol Airport . In 2020 Interxion joined forces with Digital Realty .

history

Interxion was founded in 1998 and supported by various international investors, including Baker Capital, Cobepa, Bear Stearns , Credit Suisse First Boston , Goldman Sachs , Morgan Stanley Dean Witter, Parcom Capital and Nautic Partners .

Across Europe, Interxion provides cloud , colocation , connectivity and managed services for companies such as Coca-Cola , IBM , Kaspersky Lab , DFN , Lease-lab , RTL Interactive and Siemens in its data centers . Interxion's customers include banks, brokers, MTFs and capital market companies, as well as companies from the mobility , health and FMCG sectors , especially at the stock exchange locations .

In Germany is particularly the Frankfurt office of importance on which the German Internet exchange (Internet Exchange) DE-CIX is operated. The Interxion Germany had since 1999 13 data centers built to reflect the growing demand for new data center space and the increasing importance of the Internet. The FRA12 data center was opened in October 2017. Interxion's Frankfurt data centers host parts of the DE-CIX Internet node, making them one of the largest data switching centers in Europe. The Interxion data centers in Düsseldorf host the Internet node ECIX , the second largest Internet node in Germany. In addition, they offer access to more than 80 leading national and international carriers, Internet service providers (ISPs) and content distribution networks (CDNs). They have more than 3,400 m² of developed data center space and 10,000 m² of additional shell and core space.

In Austria , Interxion has a location in Vienna , which is one of the best networked campuses in Europe and offers connectivity with more than 100 carriers and internet service providers. Interxion Austria hosts the Internet nodes NetIX, NL-ix, Peering.cz, SOX and VIX.

In Switzerland , Interxion operates a location with two data centers in Glattbrugg in the canton of Zurich , which, with 45+ carriers, is one of the best networked in the country. Interxion hosts the Internet nodes Swissix and NL-IX as well as the only AWS - Edge node in Switzerland.

Data centers

Interxion currently operates a total of 53 data centers, spread across 13 cities in eleven countries. As of November 7, 2019, 159,800 m² of computer space was available.

The 14th data center in Frankfurt am Main went into operation in November 2019.

In order to further expand the Interxion campus on Hanauer Landstrasse in Frankfurt's Ostend, Interxion bought around 107,000 square meters of the 240,000 square meters of the former Neckermann site in February 2020.

Internet node

Internet nodes (Internet Exchanges) are the network nodes of the Internet. They serve as exchange points for the data traffic of the Internet. Since 1999, DE-CIX has been located in Interxion's Frankfurt data center, one of the three largest Internet nodes in Europe, and the node with the world's highest data throughput . Interxion currently offers access to 21 such Internet nodes across Europe, most of which are also operated in Interxion's data centers:
