European Small Nations Tournament
The European Small Nations Tournament has been a regular team tournament in chess since 2009 . The group of participants largely corresponds to that of the games in the small states of Europe . From 1993 to 1997 there was a comparable country tournament in Monte Carlo .
Event and host
The tournament takes place every two years in one of the participating countries. It is played as a team tournament on four boards. Each team plays against each other during the tournament.
Organizers are the professional associations of the participating countries. The European Chess Union supports the event. A forerunner of the event is a tournament that was held in Monte Carlo from 1993 to 1997 on the initiative of the Monaco Chess Federation and financed by the chess patron Joop van Oosterom . In 2009, the San Marino Chess Federation revived the tournament series.

Sporty value
The participating countries usually send their best players in the sense of a national team. Since they do not occupy a top position in international chess, the level of play is lower than that of the Mitropa Cup . However, there is usually the participation of a few grandmasters and numerous international masters .
